Interviewing for Auditors - Eliciting Information & (Gasp) a Bonus Session on Negotiation Skills

April 2 & 3, 2009

The Saskatchewan Chapters of the ACFE and IIA are proud to announce a 2 day training session in Saskatchewan.  Click here for the application form.  Here are some highlights:

Interviewing Techniques for Internal Auditors

Gathering information from interviews with employees is an integral part of the audit process, but getting to the truth requires more than simple questions.    You can learn significantly more if you conduct interviews that probe more deeply, follow up on signs of potential deception, and politely – but firmly – pursue evasiveness.  This course will show you how to conduct more effective interviews in your audit process, increase your effectiveness in obtaining the truth and enhance your abilities in detecting lies and deception.

This 1.5 day session will be lead by Mr. Hugo Holland, a lawyer from Louisiana who has handled many jury trials.  Mr. Holland is a member of the ACFE faculty, and also teaches criminal courses and advanced investigative techniques at police academies throughout Louisiana.  He comes highly recommended by the ACFE headquarters in Austin, Texas.

Negotiation Skills

The nature of the interactions between auditors/investigators and their clients often contains a degree of acrimony and can lead to hostile relations.  In the professional world, alternative conditions and results are preferred.  In this session you will learn methods and tools to defuse a potentially unpleasant situation and how to negotiate a mutually acceptable solution.

We are please to announce that Charmaine Panko, a lawyer with Balfour Moss in Saskatoon has agreed to lead this session.  Ms. Banko, a certified mediator who has worked in a variety of professional situations requiring intervention and mediation, has also conducted training in Conflict Resolution.  The 1/2 day session will includes lectures and breakout sessions.

The workshops will be held at Queensbury Centre (Salon 2) in Regina SK and will cost $500/member (ACFE or IIA) or $600 for non-members.  This includes workshops, lunches, refreshments & a chance at a door prize.

Call for Directors

The Saskatchewan chapter of the ACFE is asking its membership to consider volunteering as a Director for our chapter.  In the past we have relied on a nomination committee to ask members if they would like to volunteer as an ACFE director.  This year, we would like to make this a more public exercise and call on members to volunteer as a director.  The time commitments are minimal (a few conference calls) and there is a great opportunity for net working.

If you are interested, or would like to nominate someone, please contact our Chapter President:
